Fibroids are benign (not malignant, not cancerous)
tumors that gow in the wall of the uterus (womb). They
are also called myomas, leiomyomas or leiomyomata.
They cause, pain, menstrual disturbances and can cause
infertility.
Surgery (myomectomy) is often performed to remove
the fibroids. Sometimes the fibroids are so bad that
a hysterectomy is performed. In either case adhesions
may form with the attendant problems of pain, bowel
and bladder problems.
