ooooooooohhhhh, You have stirred the pot. Hope you've got some big shoulders
My daughter IS disabled. She is in bed almost every day. Yes, she has good
days,
Thank God, but she can no longer hold a "job", as in getting up each morning
and
going to work. My daughter is not on disability, nor has she ever applied
for it. Only
because she is a part of our business, regardless of whether she "performs"
or not.
She receives a weekly check. Our family believes she IS a part. She is a
part of us,
regardless of performance. She spent several years feeling guilty for
receiving a check
and that in itself made her depressed. It is still difficult for her at
times, but she knows
she would do the same for her mom, dad, sister or brothers if need be. I
said all that to say
this: Adhesions cause disability in many instances. When you cannot get out
of bed,
you are disabled. Not many women have the advantage of a support system,
emotionally
or financially. I easily understand from sitting by my daughter's bedside
for years on end
that the women that are disabled have the right to disability.
As far as narcotics, Melissa is on low doses of pain control. I cannot
respond much on that subject.
Melissa is always concerned about TAKING medication, so there is no worry on
drug addiction concerning her.

I almost hate to say this, but I feel an odd sense of responsibity to
bring it up. Maybe because I like to stir up the pot, but maybe also
because I really think there maybe some bad players out there. I want
my patients who may read this message board to know there are other
opinions.

I am disturbed by the number of posts on this site that deal with
narcotic use. Some of the posts almost have an "exchanging recipes"
feel to them. I prescribe narcotics regularly for patients with real
pain, but am always worried about addiction. And someone with poor
bowel motility surely doesn't need to be on chronic narcotics.
I also am disturbed by the number of posts that describe in detail how
to get money for your adhesion pain. Sure, if you are disabled from
your adhesions, you should be able to collect what is yours. But there
seem to be almost as many how-to posts on getting disability as there
are discussions on the disease. There is even one post on how to get
disability if you have interstitial cystitis (how is this connected??).
