Thank you Karla,

I feel the same way! I was talking about it to John last night - and I asked him too "Can't I just say - I've lived with this for the last decade - I know everything about the pain - it's not like I'm new to this 'pain thing' - if I end up having to be admitted at any stage can't I just say - my GP and I are handling it - I don't need a pain specialist at this point in time!"

John agreed with me in principle.

It's just that in the past the nurses and doctors in the hospital have acted like my Pain Specialist's word is LAW! They won't prescribe anything for the pain - it all has to go thru him.

I also blurted out to John last night that I wished I could just stop taking the methadone - I'm down to 7 mg's - at the rate I'm dropping it (1 mg a month) it'll take me another 7 months to come off it! It just seems like forever - and for that period of time I will have to continue dealing with my P.S. My GP is not allowed to prescribe methadone.

I have to ring up my PS every month - and the first thing he asks me - is what medications am I taking right now?

I don't really want to lie. I'm not the kid of person who does that easily. And yet - if I'm honest it's going to get me into hot water.

John suggested replying "the same as last month" - that way I'm not technically lying to him.

Deep down inside I wish I could change to another P.S. - but I have had dealings with all of them in the past - and I really wouldn't be able to say that the situation would improve.

I've been thinking of putting my concerns down in writing and sending it Dr Robertson, what do you think? As you commented - he knows me a heck of a lot better than my P.S. as he sees me much more frequently - while my P.S. only sees me when I'm in hospital. (I've managed to stay away from that place now for 9 months!)

Or am I making a big deal about nothing?

I just don't know how to handle this!

Hugs,

Lin.
