Re: Intergel update

For Peggy, Helen and Others:

Her name is Jennifer Scott and her phone number is 412-359-4636. E-mail is jscott@aherf.edu. If you e-mail her I'd give her a couple of days to answer after the holidays. I don't think she checks daily -- although since I've been contacting her a lot recently and she knows I've been giving her address out, she might be checking more often. The name of the other liquid is icodextrin. I'm not sure what Adept is that you referred to, unless it's another name for the same thing. I had a laproscopy -- which is supposed to be one of the benefits of the intergel -- you don't have to have a laparotomy. I knew the intergel was put on immediately after the surgery. They apparently don't think there's any problem with a placebo effect. And they obviously can't hide it from the doctors in any case since the gel would be too different from the other liquid they use as a control. What they told me is that once they put the laproscope through and take a look and determine the number of adhesions, then they open a folder which says whether I get the intergel or the saline solution. I assume that Lifecore has some type of random computer choice thing. It's like "Can I have the envelope please?" For anyone who is interested in the intergel trials, I wouldn't wait too long. I was told they would be ending in December -- although I don't know if that's absolute or if they would extend the time if they need more participants. But since there has to be at least six weeks in between the original surgery and the second-look, time is getting close.

Good luck to all!

Sue Ann
