For Helen and others who are interested: I've found a couple of really
interesting and useful summaries of MSM and its effects (among a LOT of
useless information and sales pitches; beware!) One was at

This site had a very understandable explanation of MSM and even a few
descriptions of clinical tests. Another one that was well-done (I
thought) was http://res3.geocities.com/HotSprings/Spa/1405/
This second one sounds like an advertisement, and it is partly, but it
also contains some good information. I remain skeptical, of course, but
also somewhat hopeful. I, too, seem to feel less abdominal tenderness.
