Hello everyone, Due to the fact that I have fibromyalgia(FS) and adhesions, I have tried to gather as much infor on both of these chronic pain disorders. My pcp gave me a great book explaining FS. The Dr. who wrote the book also suffers from FS. His name is Dr. Mark Pellegrino and the book is titled FIBROMYALGIA, MANAGING THE PAIN. FS is a syndrome of widespread pain involving mainly muscle, but also tendons(which hold muscles to bone), ligaments(which holds bones together), bursa(fluid filled sacs that decrease the friction over the joints)and joints. The pain is generalized usually, but distinct areas of tenderness in specific locations are characteristic. The muscle pain fluctuates and is often aggravated by various physical, environmental and emotional factors. In addition to causing pain, FS causes stiffness(esp. in the morning), fatigue, numbness, feeling of weakness, swelling, cold intolerance, poor sleep and dry eyes. In one article there is a reference to adhesions/scar tissue and people suffering from mixed connective tissue disorders such as FS. It states that the scar response is amplified many times resulting in "keloid-type" scarring almost like cobwebs enveloping the muscles, nerves and joints of the affected areas. This suffocates the normal blood flow and nutrition to the area, the tissues "dry-out" and the lubrication between the different structures decreases. This results in "rubbing" of the tissues, producing scar tissue and adhesions. There are various health professionals who treat FS, they include Family physicians, internists, physiatrists, rheumatologists, psychologists, orthopedic surgeons, chiropractors, and physical therapists. I hope this helps. Personally, having both of these chronic pain conditions, has made my life very difficult. Pain fills every day. My only solace is this forum. Sherry
