Last August (2004) I had my 3rd major surgery (not counting those done
laproscopically) for abdominal adhesions (I'm ready for a zipper!). My
surgeon used Gore-tex as an adhesion barrier. I have not had any
problems since then, but I have been reading that it is not safe to keep
this material within your body for extended lengths of time. My surgeon
never spoke to me about ever having to remove the barrier. Does anyone
know whether this material should be removed, and if so, when that
should be, or can it remain within the abdominal cavity forever unless
further problems occur?
