diverticulitis symptoms....do they HAVE to include fever?

My 22 year old son has all of the classic signs of diverticulitis.....but no fever. He is having severe diarrhea and nausea, some vomiting, and pain in the lower left side of the abdomen. Due to peritoneal dialysis years ago, he has abdominal adhesions. He also has had a condition called PLE where protein is leaked through the intestines during bowel movements, causing diarrhea and inflamation of the bowel (this is presently in remission). There are numerous other health problems (heart, lungs, pheochromocytoma-- a tumor of the adrenal gland) so sorting out the cause of his abdominal pain is not easy. Since the symptoms began a week ago, we are finding that within 20 minutes of eating anything he is in the bathroom with pain and diarrhea. After reading about diverticulitis and the need to "rest the bowel", this also appears to fit the situation. He had an abdominal x ray and there are no blockages, no other tests of the digestive system yet. Bloodwork showed no indication of an infection. Any info. you can give me about this would be appreciated. We are actively working with our doctors to find a cause or treatment. Thanks!!
