Hi Ann Marie, I take oxycontin twice a day or every 12 hours and I am
sure your Dr. meant for you to take 20 mg in the am and 20 mg 12 hours
later in the pm. I take percocett for break through pain also.
Oxycontin in a long acting medication which means in stays in your
system 12 hours and is slowly released you have to take it everyday as
prescribed for it to work properly, percocett is a short acting pain
medication and that is why it is used for break through pain. If you
take this combination as directed you should find some relief, but the
only down side like with taking any medication for long periods id that
your body becomes adjusted to it and your Dr has to keep increasing the
dose but since you are just getting started it will take a while before
this happens. I hope this helps and feel free to email with any
questions.
