Dear Joanna, I was put on Elavil to help with the adhesion pain. I am also on other depression meds. The Elavil made my depression worse and did not help with my pain. Adhesions start growing 3 hours after surgery and grow for about 7 days. The adhesions stay there and tighten, causing pulling on the organs or what ever they are attached to, causing pain. They will stay until they are cut out. I hope you find this information helpful. robin M
