Clare, Everybody is different when it comes to the length of time barium takes to go through the small bowel. Everyone's transit time is different. They told me to drink a lot of water to flush it out, or the barium gets like a rock, and that HURTS!! It hurt me when they pressed on my belly, too. But only for awhile. Feel better soon. Millie.
