They probably have. Adhesions begin to form immediately after trauma, which includes surgery.

I had an emergency appendectomy 40 years ago, and have had a scar similar to what you describe ever since, only mine runs for a length of 6". In March 2000, when I was diagnosed, the surgical report shows omental adhesions connecting to the bowel and intestines beginning at the point where the scar tissue is "puckered" into my belly. And yes, I have problems getting clothing loose enough around the tummy and yet tight enough to stay up.

My pain is deeper usually, but the skin is tender most of the time.
