Eileen, I just wanted to reach out and hold you through this email....assuring you that even though you don't have money....or for that matter, health....you are someone. You are very important...if to no one else but me. I have NO money....I have extremely poor health....but I AM important. If to no one else but my two beautiful granddaughters who yell out my name when I walk in the door and greet me with the tightest of hugs. While this awful disease takes so much out of us, we cannot allow it to take away the person whom we are. I would like to give you some advice. When you are applying for help, do NOT tell them about the SprayGel. Tell them that you are going to see Kruchinski or Reich because of the success that they are having with respect to adhesions. If the doctor (Kruchinski or Reich) has to complete parts of your form ask them not to mention the use of SprayGel. Kruchinski (and perhaps Reich now) uses a gasless procedure that is a big part of his success with adhesions. If they just explain the procedure no mention has to be made of SprayGel. I think that this is how others may be getting around insurance restrictions as well. Just my thoughts. Karla "Eileen Rivera (Puerto Rico)" <satintigerpr@yahoo.com> wrote:Karla, Sweetie, thank you so much for the information! I also think the same...he wasn't talking about Spray Gel. I wrote to Lisa seeking more info about cost, etc. I called The Department of Health for Catrastrofic Diseases here in Puerto Rico to see if they can help me with the cost of air fare, hospital, surgeon, etc to seek help from Dr. Krunchinski or Dr. Reich. This Health Department said they will send me the information but that they don't cover mayor surgery that the medication applied is not approved in the US.

Also, this is a long process to be approved by this department. Karla, I'm not going to have another surgery done here to be eight or ten months later the same way as I am now in this agony. These last three adhesions surgeries (almost once a year) that I have had has been emergency surgeries due to the estrangulation of intestines, belly button, appendix and other organs. I will hold as much as I can.

I want to thank you Karla, Helen, Lisa, Karen, Jo, Cindy, Mendy, Millie (please, please forgive me if I forgot someone, it's not my intention!) and all (you... yes... you that is reading this) those wonderful, kind, loving persons here in this forum that has been writing to me, helping me, giving me so much support and information. I'm so over joy (crying with a smile) that you all are in my life helping me. I really need a shoulder to cry on because I feel so hopeless here.... I know now if you don't have health and money you're nothing. You all are so wonderful! You all are in my daily prayers. God Bless. With love, Eileen

>I guarantee you he wasn't talking about SprayGel. It is only in very restricted clinical trials here in the states and will probably take a couple of years to be approved. There was also some mention way back when that when it is approved that it might only be for use in gyn cases. If a person has had a hysterectomy they would be SOL. But, that was a long time ago.
>Your best bet for finding out costs would be to speak with someone who has already been there....Lisa or Sally. Last I knew it was around $6,000 including everything. Air fare, room, food, hotel, and hospital and surgeon. I don't know if Dr. Kruchinski, with his new and exciting gasless procedure runs the same, but it would be worth it whatever the cost. Dr. Kruchinski and Dr. Reich work together somewhat and Dr. Reich is the only doctor in this country whom I would allow to lay his hands on me.
>You are new to this site. I suggest that you take the time to educate yourself to this disease. Search the archives using Helen Dynda's name. You will come up with such a vast amount of information that you will probably end up knowing more than most doctors do in this country about this disease. Read the stories on the quilt...maybe you already have...I can't remember. Don't repeat the mistakes that I have made. Seek out only the best.

>>Eileen,
>>I don't understand why your doctor told you that you could not have SprayGel. Could you please explain? First of all, SprayGel has not been approved for use in the U.S. It's use has been limited to some European countries and Australia. I have not heard of any side effects. The infection that you mention was a side effect of Intergel...not SprayGel. I have also heard that SprayGel is available in different strengths for people who might have sensitivities. SprayGel is your best hope right now. I have not heard one person who has had SprayGel used say that they have adhesion reformation....to the contrary. Please look into this further before you undergo any more surgery. While I understand your financial situation, perhaps there would be a means of raising the money to get you there. Those that have gone are so much happier and so pain free.
