"The findings suggest that smokers who have a family history of colon cancer should undergo screenings before the age of 50, say researchers.

"The team at Stony Brook University, in New York, collected data on 354 smokers, 364 ex-smokers, and 848 non-smokers who had undergone a screening colonoscopy – examination of the colon. The researchers also examined the patients’ lifestyle including smoking habits and diet."
