Re: Abdominal adhesions recently cut from bowel area during abdominal

Barbara, I arrived home today from my 3rd hospitalization with an obstruction of the small bowel (I had it in two places this time). I deal with episodes at home usually and wait them out. I too have the labor pain where every three minutes it changes from relief to want to die in this pain. I finally went to the hospital this time after 15 hours of this pain when I began vomitting. I have an excellent doctor who tells me that my adhesions from my 2 c-sections and hysterectomy and oopherectomy are what is causing this strangulation of my bowel. My bowel gets wrapped up and twisted like a poodle balloon at a circus. When it is 100% blocked, I cannot put anything in my mouth without it coming right back out. If it is partially blocked, I can tolerate liquids and wait it out. Repeated surgeries is not the answer since surgery causes adhesions. An NG tube is used to help clear out the obstruction through the stomach. This is a tube that is placed up the nose and down the throat. It feels AWFUL but not as awful as the bowel pain. It also creates a sort of suction action that can stimulate the bowel into working again and untwisting. It twists for no real reason (raking leaves, exercise, sex) and can untwist for not real reason too. You should not be treated that way from your doctor. Adhesions cause these problems and any doctor who says it doesn't is WACKO! I have also seen 3 bowel surgeons who confirm this. Hang in there! Remember that doctors are like any other business and if you are not satisfied with the service you get, try another one!
