Re: Do some adhesions not cause pain??

It is absolutely true that in the vast majority of people with adhesions they cause no symptoms at all. And nobody knows what is the difference between the ones that cause pain and the ones that don't. Somebody here a couple of months back relayed a story that her gyn had told her, about going in to do a tubal ligation on a woman and when he got in with the laprascope they were the worst adhesions that he had ever seen. He cut the tubes and backed out rather gingerly and closed the woman up. Later her asked her about pain and she said, "uh, no, why do you ask?" He went over the symptoms of an intestinal blockage with her because that is always a life-threatening possibility with adhesions. And this woman never had any problems.

There are 10,000 babies born in the US every day, 2,500 of them by c-section. Somewhere between 50% and 100% of c-sections result in adhesions. There are literally tens of millions of women in the US with adhesions.

There are lots of things in medicine that quite simply no one understands. No one knows what causes alzheimers, or pre-eclampsia, or mad-cow disease. No one knows why adhesions cause pain in the subset of people that they cause pain in.
