Ultram is a non narcotic pain relieving agent, as with any medication including over the counter drugs there is always a possibility of addiction. But if you are referring to chronic pain patients who require to stay on some form of pain relief, the most important question is not addiction to us. Its adequate pain management and giving the patient enough medication to get through. Many doctors don't even prescribe the normal dose of medication if the medication say is to take every 4-6 hours for pain, many doctors think because they are on long term medication that they should only be allowed 1-2 pills daily. I as a chronic pain patient and really get upset about this addiction comment in lue of worry about the real issue. Are chronic pain patient treated with proper medication. The answer strongly is NO. Many patients who are on pain medication can have their dose lowered and lowered this way there won't be withdrawal symptoms instead of cold turkey which will often cause terrible withdrawals. Any patient going through with drawls will tell you it was one the most awful, inhuman acts they have ever been through. There are many medications that can ease withdrawal symptoms again doctors are not looking out for what is best for the patient. They are removing the pain medication because of their fears and phoebe's with pain medication. Hope this has helped Kimmi
