An 86 year old lady from Milwaukee, Wisconsin suffered for many, many years from undiagnosable abdominal pain. Over the years she had tried her best to explain her symptoms and to be listened to and understood by her doctors; and, like many of us, was unable to get adequate medication for her chronic pain. NO Drs. cared enough to even listen to her -- let alone prescribe medication to relieve her pain and these Drs. attributed everything to "simply old age."
Her daughter called Bev last year; and Bev suggested that she request all of her mother's operative reports. Lo and behold, adhesions were mentioned in every one of them!!
Today, her mother is still in pain; but she does not plan to have any kind of surgery. Due to the persistence of her adult children and all of the information now available about adhesions, their 86 year old mother is finally getting better pain management.
But the most important thing here is that her daughter said that her mother has finally found some peace within her pain and suffering; because now she knows what she has and that IT IS REAL!! NOW she is content to put up with HER pain and HER disease; because she has "one upped" the Drs. by finding out for herself what the cause is for her pain.
She has decided to live with it. Now she demands her meds, when she needs them. NOW that she knows that there is a REAL reason for her suffering, NOW she is content!!
This scene is probably repeated over and over by elderly people; but at least one of them has learned the truth about her suffering and is receiving the right kind of help. As the knowledge of this disease spreads, more and more people -- who may not be able to have surgery -- will find peace within their pain...simply because they will have learned what the REAL reason is for their pain!!
