Kimberly,

My daughter has pain from adhesions related to bowel surgery, so i know all too well this type of episode. She doesn't have a colon, so no more BM's, but still has pain related to stoma output from her ileostomy.

Signs of bowel obstruction are pretty clear, usually... they include not only pain, but fever, bloating, and vomiting. If your pain passes with in an hour or 2, i wouldn't worry about it being an obstruction. If it does not subside and the other symptoms are present, get to an ER. I'd also suggest a visit to a GI doc, if the pain continues to be associated with BM's you may want to get a colonoscopy.
