Soft tissue damage can promote muscle spasm and hyperirritatibility which responds well to localized trigger point injections. These are innocuous injections which can be done in the office without discomfort to the patient. A mixture of lidocaine and marcaine is often used to inject into the muscle trigger point, which helps to relieve the muscle spasm.

Inflamed joints and bursa also respond well to intraarticular injections with corticosteroid. This can be done safely and effectively using an appropriate technique. Caution must be used, however, against giving these injections too frequently in order to avoid any adverse effects. This procedure is performed in the office as well
