Your bowel symptoms -- partial obstruction, pain, and thin stools -- are similar to mine, but I have no signs of infection. Also my obstructions have been in the small bowel.
My surgeons attribute these symptoms to adhesions and have found extensive adhesions during several surgeries.
Colectomy, as you know, is pretty serious stuff. I think a good second opinion is in order to see whether less drastic surgery or treatment of infection might help. Be sure that you are working with both a gastroenterologist and a colo-rectal surgeon with lots of experience.
