This is simply untrue. The sigmoidoscopy only views about 1/3 of the colon. Anyone with symptoms -- abdominal pain, bleeding, a change in bowel habits -- should be evaluated via colonoscopy.
This is true even for people younger than 50, the risk age for colon cancer. Pain, bleeding, bowel problems, unexplained anemia . . . all need a colonoscopy done by a gastroenterologist.
