[] Restricted-fiber or Low-residue Diet

Restricted-fiber or Low-residue Diet. This diet is designed to prevent the blockage of the intestines and to reduce the frequency and volume of feces. It is indicated for persons with inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis, intermittent or partial obstruction, as a postoperative diet, or following radiation to the gastrointestinal tract. The restricted fiber diet excludes most raw fruits and vegetables, as well as whole-grain breads and cereals, seeds, and nuts. It does not restrict meat or dairy products. On a low-residue diet, prune juice is eliminated and milk and milk products are restricted to two cups daily as these items increase colonic residue.
