Hi Lynn and welcome! My last surgery was in November for extensive
intestinal and abdominal adhesions. My surgeon used Seprafilm.
Seprafilm is for use in patients undergoing abdominal or pelvic
laparotomy as an adjunct intended to reduce the incidence, extent and
severity of postoperative adhesions between the abdominal wall and the
underlying viscera such as omentum, small bowel, bladder, and stomach,
and between the uterus and surrounding structures such as tubes and
ovaries, large bowel and bladder. It is a membrane that looks like a
sheet of waxed paper. The surgeon uses Seprafilm to separate and
protect tissues damaged by incisions, suturing, or cauterization. After
about a week the time when adhesions are most likely to form, Seprafilm
is broken down and absorbed by the body. I hope this helps. Good luck,
we are here for you. Sherry
