Hi Peggy and Ginny: I've been following your posts and tried to respond to Peggy before but was interrupted. Now I'm back. Peggy, I was absolutely horrified by the way the doctor treated you. Sometimes this happens with doctors covering for another doctor and you have to put up with it, although you can speak to your own doctor about it next time you see him/her. You do NOT have to put up with this if he is going to be the one treating you. I would "nip it in the bud" the next time I saw him. I would tell him as nicely as I could (and you might be better than me at this) that if you can't feel comfortable calling him after he told you it was okay, especially when you are starting on meds, then the relationship is not going to work out and you'd better see another doctor. You can say this in a way that doesn't put him on the defensive, I'm sure you know that. I was really upset when I read the treatment you received. I would definitely let him know I was upset about it. Again, nicely said, it will not put him on the defensive. Ginny, I can't understand why your pcp is not treating your pain. There are other ways besides narcotics, if that's what she is afraid of. She could at least make an attempt. I would tell her that by taking so long to treat your pain that indicates to me that she must not be interested in treating your problem and that perhaps you had better find another doctor. Said in the proper tone (easier said than done) most doctors will not show you the door if you say this. If your husband backs you up, that's even better. I can't believe that if your husband told her that he had to carry you out of work that she would not take your request seriously. I had another "misunderstanding" with my pcp office yesterday and I plan to talk to him about this next time I see him. If I am being forced to have a pcp who manages my health care, then I am going to make sure I feel comfortable with the way things are done. I have a physical therapy evaluation on Tuesday. I have no idea what to expect.
