Having a port-a-cath was the best thing I ever did! You need to ask questions and request that they consider putting one in. In the mean time, a PICC line or central line can be used for pain pump and lab draws.

The only thing I can suggest is going to a good pain management specialist. Don't know if he woud be a good candidate for a pain pump or not but he needs to go to a good pain management specialist.
