I had one for 3 years. The doctor used different combinations of meds. When going through medal detectors, it will set off an alarm and one is held up at airports while they run the detector full length. Also, at public office buildings where one has to go through security. There were few times the system malfunctioned and I would get in severe pain. Once checked, the nurse was able to reactivate.

Is it worth it to be out of pain for as long as you can be...I would have to say, yes. I exhausted the highest dose of Morphine which made me sleepy. I decided after three years, I would rather not have a foreign object in me. I believe one needs to have all the information they can get on the pump and make the decision for themself. Certainly the pump is smaller than when I had one. The pump came about as a result of the pacemaker. It is allowing many people who live in constant pain to live a somewhat normal life.

You also need to know what portion of the medication and doctor visits your insurance will cover. My wonderful doctor waived the portion my insurance did not cover; otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to afford the costs.
