I've undergone numerous surgeries over the years due to endometriosis, adenomyosis, adhesions, c-section, etc. My recovery from the bowel resection was really no different than the recovery from any of the other surgeries. I was expecting it to be much more difficult than it turned out to be so I was quite releaved and very pleasantly surprised.
Is your husband's surgery being done laparoscopically or through an open incision, laparotomy? Mine was a laparotomy so I'm sure that lengthened my recovery time. I wish I knew then what I know now because I would have sought out a surgeon who was skilled at doing the procedure through the scope...many are proficient at this kind of surgery. Laparoscopic surgery is much less traumatic to the patient and, as I mentioned above, makes recovery much easier.
My hospitalization following the bowel resection was 6 days.
Hopefully your husband's surgery will be as uneventful as mine was.
Best, Debbie
