Kelly,

I can't stress enough to make sure you are using a good attorney who is a social security advocate. Email me directly if you'd like the name of the one I used. It's a long process, so be prepared. They denied me twice, even though the 5 specialists I work with filled out their questionnaires and wrote reports to go with all my medical documentation. It wasn't until I was up for a hearing in front of a judge, that when the judge reviewed the case and the reports, he overturned the denials without a hearing and awarded me the disability in end of November.

They can still appeal the decision, so it takes about 90 days before you see any back pay. The lawyers can only take 25% by law, and its worth it for all the headaches that were involved. You should see the paperwork I have from them.

Keep your head up, keep faith. We know it's a real disease and need to make more people aware of what we go through.

I finally started receiving benefits in February... and be advised, if you have children under the age of 18, they may be eligible for 50% of your benefits to help pay for the costs of their care as well. For me, it's not much, since I've been sick since they were born (15 years)....I wish I only knew sooner. But, had I not continued to try and work, I would have never had enough credits to qualify.

If you have any questions you would like to ask me personally, please go ahead and email me. I'd be happy to help. Best of luck!!

Jeanne
