Hi! My seven year old had emergency surgery to remove inestinal adhesions about 3 weeks ago. When he was 9 months old he had to have a fundoplication for reflux. He had complications from the fundo which caused him to have paratanitis, from that he developed two adhesions which had to be removed. All this happen in a 3 week time period. He has had no trouble until now. He was fine one Tuesday, ate a big dinner at 6pm and by 7 was on the floor with abdominal pain. Could no pass stools, gas and couldn't physically vomit because of the fundo.

He was admitted to the hospital Wed. morning, a ng tube was inserted to suction his stomach contents and was taken to surgery Thurs. morning.

His surgeon said that he had too many adhesions to count and that every part of his intestines where attached to themselves or something else in is abdomen. My question is with this occuring this early in age is he going to have to deal with these things all his life? Is there anything we can do to help prevent a recurrence? And does it take that long for them to develop or can they develope and cause an obstruction in a much shorter such as weeks, months, couple of years, etc?

Thanks in advance for the info.
