Dear Susan,
I would recommend taking stool softeners every night
before bed. I take 350 mg. of DSS at bedtime. Sometimes
it may be necessary to take it during the day as well.
Metamucil doesn't always work with those of us with adhesions.
Also, eating less meat and eating more vegetables, fruit
and fiber will help. Also, cheese can be binding so definitely
limit that.
Also, as we get older many people become intolerant to
milk products because our bodies no longer make the
enzymes necessary to digest lactose.
The only milk products I can tolerate is yogurt and goat
cheese--because they don't have the lactose (a chemical
change occurs when yogurt is made from milk).
