17 ft. of intestine sounds like more than just a simple bowel
obstruction due to the effects of ovarian cyst surgery. I'm not a
doctor, only another patient the same age as your mother who has Crohn's
disease. Are you sure that your Mom doesn't have Crohn's disease.
Losing the valve will cause diahrea if not corrected with medication to
hold back the bile salts and fat in to the large intestine. In addition
because the valve is missing, she will probably have baterial
overgrowth. Both of these can be corrected provided the doctor if
knowledgeable. Short Bowel Syndrome will be the most difficult to
control. You didn't say much about eating. Has she tried Ensure? In
addition your mother should be on supplemental vitamins. Your mother
should be receiving B12 shots regularly. I would find myself a could
gastro who knows how to treat her disease properly.
