It sounds like adhesions. I used to have sharp pains like that too (actually still do) at night when I turn, or bending over the wrong way. I never could figure them out before I found out about my adhesion problems, now I know what the pains are. If the pain gets too bad, you should take your medical records to a pain specialist. If they are just coming from time to time, I would wait as long as you can before seeking pain meds.
