Hi Janine,

Thanks for all the additional info, I'll surely be busy these coming days. :)

of this site. Helen & Beverly Doucette (sorry if the spelling is wrong) are pretty much pioneers in this field and they are filled with information about ARD. Of course, this is a personal decision, but the more informed you are the better. >

If you are going the route of surgery, the doctor needs to know the best way to treat your adhesions, most don't as they don't encounter these surgeries too often. These specialist (listed below) are pretty much pioneers in their field, and I think are very challenged at trying to be the first one who has very long term success. So far I've heard about a lot of short term successes from these doctors, but of course, only time will tell. >

You will really have to read both sides of the story (some do extremely well by this procedure - and some do not). Unfortunately there are no guarantees, but we all hope that some (preferably all)will be lucky enough to have relief for good. Helen has advocated to me a couple years ago to read, read read. Be informed, and of course in the end, it will all be a personal decision. There are many people you can email with as well, they can give you their stories. >

If you do decide to have something surgically done, it appears that your best bets right now are having the surgery done by Dr. Reich in PA & NY or going to Germany with Dr. Kruschinski, but you should definitely read up on both and make a very informed decision. Helen Dynda has also been a godsend to most everyone with adhesions, and a quick email to her, or viewing her posts should definitely benefit you.

Hi, My name is Kari, and I am actually writing about my mom. She wants some support badly at this time. She had sugery due to diverticulosis in 1991 and has 5 attacks of ahesions on her bowels. All with sugery following to relieve her pain. Post-surgery on/or around 1994 she stayed in the hospital for 17 days. She again had it in 98, 02 and now 03. Last year she went in with the excruciating pain you described as an emergency and they admitted her immediately and went into surgery. Got released 5 days later and ended up back in for another 5 days. This year shes been having the pains on and off so she scheduled an appt with the surgeon and he decided "lets do it laproscopically" while you are well and see if we can do somethign about it. (since everytime has been an emergency so far). Well the surgery was supposed to be 2 hours long and out comes the surgeon 5 hours later he said the adhesions were so bad he couldnt see thru anything with just the camera and ended up opening her all the way up again. She is very frustrated at this point and would like to talk to others with this problem. She is wondering if a referrel out to say the mayo clinic would come up with something at this point and time. Her surgeon has already told her that her bowels are so thin and weak that he can never operate again unless it is a dire emergency. Well thanks for any respose we get. I will pass them on to her.
