Hello Beanie -

I take Metamucil as well, and I take it everyday. My sugeon and PCP told me to take it to keep my colon constantly "working" so that it will be harder for the bowel to become obstructed.

I take one tablespoon of Metamucil daily and so far, no more bowel obstructions. At least none so far, I am keeping my fingers crossed. Is your doctor giving you anything to help with the spasms that come with IBS? If not, you may want to ask your doctor about an antispasmodic drug. I use 2mg Valiums when my IBS spasms start and it usually takes care of most of the pain.

Take care, Samantha

As a result of the operations, I found out the other day, after having a colonscopy, that I have adhesions in my large Bowel. My doctor told me to take Metamucil. I was wondering if anyone is taking Meramucil and if so can a person take it every day or only when you are constipated? The doctor just said to take it as directed. The bottle that I got is not too clear. At present, I am takin g one tablespoon in a glass of water once a day. But, I am now having diarrea. I also have IBS and have had that for six years. I am not restricted to a diet.
