How to lessen the appearance of surgical scars

One of the things we haven't discussed much here are remedies and products you can use to help lessen the appearance of your surgical scars.

There are many products on the market; some available in grocery, discount or drug stores - others available only via internet purchase. You can even have a raised incision (known as a keloid) "buffed" to make it flatter! However, it is difficult (and costly) to try them all.

A couple of old standby products that have been helpful to me are: Vitamin E cream or Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Remember, this may not work for everyone and gives no guarantees of helping; nor is it a "quick fix". My mother was told in the mid-70's to use olive oil on her incision from thyroid surgery. Every day (sometimes twice) she used the oil and after time went by - her incision wasn't as noticeable across her throat. Today, you can barely see it.

Ask your doctor about the best product or method for reducing the appearance of your incisions. This can be a very important part of the "healing".
