Toni, Shali.

Please, a little perspective. Miralax is safe in a dose of 420 grams at once (in a colon prep form - Nulytely) and you cannot become addicted to it unlike most "safe" laxatives. It is not a laxative but a stool softener, working on the stool itself not the colon. PEG, the ingredient in miralax is a common food ingredient and you've probably been ingesting it in small amounts for years with no problems. It has been found safe in dosages 2-3x the recommended amount and 6 month studies have been done with no abnormal electrolyte shifts due to almost no absorption. Miralax reduces abdominal pain and gassing in IBS patients, and many pediatricians comfortably use it long term. All said it is safer than the alternatives and is better tolerated - try it in coffee, tea, iced tea etc or juice as well as water.

Good luck mark
