Dear AnnMarie, I'm sorry you have to go through all of this pain at 19. Since you have to make decisions as an adult you have hereby become an adult. People can not treat you like a child. That's ridiculous. If you are in agony/dreadful pain you need relief. I understand the feeling that you don't want to take medicines which only mask your pain. Once you can get permanent relief you can dispose of the meds. Taking too much tylenol is bad for you so taking the oxycodein would be a good choice for breakthrough pain. Yes, many of us here have taken oxycontin and it works. It helps you bear the awful pain of adhesions. Your doctor who told you that you didn't need to go to a specialist is wrong. You definitely need someone who is a specialist and there are only a few in the U.S., two in Germany, and a few in Australia. "Hometown" doctors can do more harm than good when they operate. Most of them may have treated other people with adhesions, but if you are like the rest of us here your adhesions are nothing like your doctors have dealt with before. Please read the quilt, past emails, and other info on this site. It will really help you. Don't get discouraged. Its hard to wade through a lot of words, but you need to do research. Try searching here for operation, pain, doctors, etc. Whatever you want to know about. I had an operation a year just to keep alive. I went to Scranton, Penn but the adhesions were back within a week. They are excellent doctors but they are not yet allowed to use spraygel, the new barrier. I went to Dr. Kruschinski in Germany and he does not use carbon dioxide, does have incredible hands (very important) and uses spray gel (in my opinion this barrier will revolutionize the treatment of adhesions). You can email me personally at LostCst@mcn.org for more info on him if you want. I know its easy to get depressed and mad because no one seems able to give you answers. But believe it or not there are more answers than there used to be. Stay strong, and please don't beat yourself up just because you have adhesions. You do what you have to do. There was another young woman named Melissa who's mother, Karen Stewart posts on this board. Maybe you could talk to Melissa. Keep in touch. Love, Sally
