All I've done the past year is go to doctors! It started out with burning indigestion for a few weeks, and then I got severe esophageal spasms. It took 8 months for my "old" GI guy to diagnose "pathologic GERD." I was also diagnosed with sleep apnea.
I've been complaining of "bloating" for several years and have had several work-ups for ovarian cancer, since I've had all those symptoms for years (come to think of it, who in mid-life doesn't?). To make a long story short, I had a laparoscopy/hysteroscopy/D&C at the beginning of January, and (SUPRISE!) I'm full of adhesions! I have never had abdominal surgery, and I cannot remember when I've ever had symptoms of a severe infection.
At Thanksgiving, I finally got the bright idea of measuring my girth (I no longer have a waist), and I gained 4 inches around in less than a week. I had noticed around September that I was not able to get into some of my clothes, and right now I can only wear two pairs of slacks. Right now I'm 12 inches bigger around than I was a year ago! I definitely look pregnant and am in constant pain, especially when sitting at the computer (drat!).
I also have a bad neck and have recently been getting epidural injections for that. I thought for the past decade that I had fibromyalgia, but here it might just have been my slowly deteriorating neck (I had a microdiskectomy in 1989). Today I'm going to see about the prickly feelings I've developed in my legs and feet.
Anyway, in a couple of weeks, I'm due to have "The Works" out, with the gyne/onc doing the surgery. He will use Seprafilm. That's ok by me, if it can give me some respite from pain; I had just gone through menopause, so I don't need those parts, and the adhesions all stem from them. I'm hoping pathology can give me a clue as to why they are there. But now I'm reading that I may be doomed to a life with these things, until they come up with better solutions (or dissolutions? Sorry, 'scuse the pun) to the problems.
Say, where in Germany is Dr. K located? Does anyone have any suggestions for me? It's so nice to find your board; but whoever would have thunk that people spend all their careers working with these things? I'm certainly glad they're there! Thanks for your help... wr
