1.) Always be honest with your pain management physician.

2.) Follow the guidelines and policies of the physician.

3.) Only obtain prescriptions for pain medications from your pain management physician. Make other physicians aware of this policy. If they do prescribe pain medications, either have this doctor call and ok this with your pain management physician or call your pain management physician and check yourself.

4.) Give plenty of time for your doctor to refill your prescription. Most doctors offices require one weeks notice. If it is important enough not to hurt, it is important enough to plan ahead.

5.) Do not take the pain medication more often than prescribed by you doctor. If it is not working, you need to make an appointment and discuss this with him/her.
