Dear Dr.lyn, I am a very lucky person as I have been blessed to have survived many death defying accidents. I have been told that I have deep vein thrombosis by my family Dr. Naturally as I am reading mail on the adhesions board, your response to a person caught my attention and I have a question that I would like an answer to please. My last cheat ing bout with death was when I was run over by a semi truck and crushed my back. I had to take a few flights from Oklahoma City to Phoenix for recostructive back surgury. I noticed that during the flight that I had to stand quite frequently, and personally thought that it was due to the pain in my left thigh due to my back injury. I have a main artery in my left thigh that swells up about the size of a small finger and causes a burning sensation. I can thump it with my finger and it may or may not eventually go down, but it is with severe pain. As with the patient who wrote you asking about this situation, my family Dr. has told me that it is nothing to be concerned about. I believe that it is his opinion that because of my back injury that this condition is normal, however it is far from normal. I get burning sensations in the direct area and have numbness and tingling, as well as severe pain. I am on medication due to the chronic pain codition due to the failure of eight surguries on my back. I have also had kidney failure several times, which has left me in the hospital for four or five days at a time. I am a medicare patient and am under the impression that I have been ignored of this condition due to the lack of the way medicare refuses to pay the physicians in an appropriate mannner. I saw my family Dr. a few weeks back and once again I was told that this could lead to a serious condition, and that i may have to have my veins stripped or even possibly removed. I have not made an appointment to see a vein specialist because I have had a surgury about every six to eight months, either on my back, or my kidneys,. I now have interstem implants due to a neurogenic bladder and because I have adhesions, in order for me to have bowel and bladder functions somewhat properly. Do I need to ask my family Dr. to refer me to a vein specialist in order to have this situation looked at due to the severe burning sensations when the arteries flair up, or is it something that I can ignore and live with without worry? I was told by my Dr. to make sure that I do not sit in one spot for a very long time, and when I take a flight to see an out of state Dr. such as my back specialist, I am unable to sit on the plane but for about ten to fifteen minutes before I experience severe pain and a flare up of the artery in my thigh. I would like your opinion on this matter if you would please. Thank you and may God bless you Sincerely Dave
