Hello everyone; I had my 2nd Dr.s appointment (today) follow up for Lumbar Lamnaectomy Surgery of July 24, 2002. This Surgeon was the one that I declared I would never look at again! He stated 12 hours after a 7 hour surgery, that "PAIN NEVER KILLED ANYONE" He could not increase my meds because he did not like to write Triplicates! I suffered more that night than giving child birth to 3 children for 28 hours running consecutively. I did not know my patients rights! The next morning it took me several hours to get dressed and packed! Back surgery feel like abdominal surgery on your back! :) You can not cough; breath move; turn; stand; sit; every thing from your bra line down to toes was hurting at the same time! I always take my car, when I am having a new thing done by a new Doctor. (Just my way of some control). I was going home... one day post op! I had in my car enough meds to put a dent in the pain to be able to breath and drive home. Did not know how I was going to get out of the car! I offered a man money that was passing by to carry, my bag to my car; I just could not do it, . He had the kindest face, from what I could see through my red swollen puffy crying eyes, and face. He asked me could he talk to me for one minute! I remained standing, it took me at least an hour to stand. I do not know why, but I told him my story. He asked me to wait one minute he guaranteed me someone very understanding would help me. The Chief Nurse or something like that came with my chart, she said, please do not go home, I am sorry about your suffering, the doctors only have privileges, that nurses run the hospital! She had called the anesthesiologist on duty, he ordered morphine drip, shot of demoral IM, Valium, told my doctor he would take over patient pain management! I did not take my sweats or tennis shoes off! I reluctantly laid on the bed. She closed the curtains dimmed the lights, turned on some mediation music very low. Said she is my Nurse the rest of the shift. The rest was post OP procotal! Oh the man was (patients rights advocate), the nurse was Head of the Surgical Nursing Dept. I did not know my patient rights!

The only way I could get my mortgage payments paid for this Dis-ease, was to see the Doctor who did the surgery. Last night I wrote 8 brief questions, went into his office bright cheerful smiling, I was on a mission! Shared pleasantries, to nurses and staff, because I needed all of them to work for me this morning. I asked him could I read my questions, started with the results of his surgery/ told him it was a success I was improved 50%, which was really good odds, for that one area of my body, I told him my areas of remaining pain cheerful but brief and factual. I could tell that he was relieved that I wasn't suing or putting a contract on him , I was not angry! I got his undivided attention. I had my post op x-rays, we read them together ( I need milk of Mg++). He ordered a Mri/Nerve Conduction test/Spinal epidural/ and follow up appointment, all before Jan 3,3003, for other areas of my body. Also got a copy of my surgery report/pathology. Physical rehab 2 x week.

The morals of my story is that I got more done this morning in 2 1/2 hours than I have ever, because of your messages!. I could not have done it with out all of you! I took advise; information; attitude; and all of you with me in that office. I would not have done it like that in a million years, I had too much pride to ask ! I had no plans of ever seeing him again! However it was for me, something I need from them! Get what ever else you need from some one else...Our health care system is run by specialists! Definitely not a one stop shop!

New attitude when I need something from them ! Calm down, make a plan, educate your self on what you want now !; execute, cheerfully do not take no; , search really deep for an honest compliment, some of the difficult ones have very very large Egos.

"THAT WAS THEN THIS IS NOW "! (try this attitude to get what you want now !)

I got Christmas presents early from you guys.....Thank you from my heart ! I hope you benefit in some way, like I did today......

Love Linda.....Happy Holidays... Hope your pains are eased and your spirits are lifted a little bit.

Hello everyone;
I had my 2nd Dr.s appointment (today) follow up for Lumbar Lamnaectomy Surgery of July 24, 2002.
