Toni, flax seeds cost 2.99 a pound and you use 2 tablespoons for 6 cups of water. It works better than a stool softner. Makes your stool soft. You can get them at your local health food store. Maybe I confused everyone with telling you about all the other stuff I am taking also. All you need to take is the flaxseed juice in some juice and I can almost guarantee that you will start going. I remember someone else suggesting this a long time ago and I paid no attention but now that I have done it I know it was a god send. No stool softener has ever worked for me and mineral oil isn't good for us and did not always work because I couldn't get enough down. Please try it. It also got the gas out of me so I don't have the pressure going on inside of me. WORKS FOR ME !!!! The recipes are on my last post. Can anyone else confirm that this WORKS. Love ya , Jaynie

I went to the health food store and this is what she said to take.

If your intestines are inflamed use this recipe: BOIL 6 CUPS OF WATER - THEN ADD 1TB of FLAXSEEDS - AND LET SIMMER FOR 5 MINUTES - THEN TAKE IT OFF THE BURNER AND LET COOL - THEN STRAIN THE SEEDS OUT AND PUT IN A GLASS JAR IN THE FRIDGE. TAKE 1/4 - 1/2 CUP IN SOME JUICE A DAY

It really works! I had really bad gas for the first 2 days though.

Or if your not inflamed you could do this recipe: 1/2 tbs. flaxseed to every 1/2 cup water - let soak for 6-8 hours - drink and chew seeds - followed by 1 - 2 glasses of water . This one gives you the fiber.

Finally something that is not bad for you and it works!! I also added other things like Aloe Vera, a tonic for your bowels, acidopholis, for yeast in bowel and helps with inflammation, and a digestive enzyme , which will help get the nutrients from your food and help inflammation of the bowel. I am not a nutritionist this is what the gal at the health food store said her doctor said to do for constipation and it works for me. Talk to ya latter, Jaynie

http://www.adhesions.org/forums/ADHESIONS.0209/0393.html I know of 3 people who had suffered with constipation all their lives that started taking flax seed, and their problems cleared up! They used Uncle Sams cereal, shich has flax seed in it and mixed just 1/4 cup with the ceral of their choice. Be sure to turn the Uncle Sam's box upside down several times, as all the flax seed settles to the bottom. Give it a try and good luck. Sincerely, Deb Backen

4.) Flax seed is brain food, too!: From: cathy - (anonymous@medispecialty.com); Sat Sep 14 10:07:07 2002

Flax seed oil is an excellent source of DHA, which is the long-chain fatty acid that is also found in fish like salmon. If you've ever heard the advice about eating fish being good for your brain, they are talking about DHA. It increases intelligence and relieves depression. Since flax seed oil goes rancid quickly, the recommendation is that you buy the whole seeds and then grind just the amount you need right before you use it. You can buy a spice grinder, or one of those electric coffee bean grinders, or a morter and pestle. In order to get the oil (and the DHA) out, you have to grind up the seeds. So while the whole flax seeds are a great laxative, the ground-up flax seeds make a great laxative AND great brain food.

It sounds like an excellent practice would be some flax seed freshly ground up and added to breakfast each morning. I bet it would be yummy added to yogurt, or stirred into scrambled eggs, and of course sprinkled on the top of cereal...
