Cheryl,

Before my last surgery I experience pain similar to what you describe, and since surgery I have had another variation of it.

I have a bowel that hasn't worked since my August 1 surgery and I have to have a colonoscopy (bowel prep) at LEAST once a week, sometimes more often. When I have a loaded bowel, particularly the last part I tend to experience a pushing, often sharp pain or sensation that travels deep into my abdomen. If your faeces is too hard and dry (because of constipation)... the longer it takes to empty, the dryer and harder it is to get it out. (I am sorry, I can't remember where I read information about this, if I find it, I will post the link for you.)

When I have left it alone for too long, I need to use 2 glycerine suppositories, if that doesn't work, it's time for a micro lax enema. Both can be bought over the counter at the chemist.

I was surprised at how much difference it made to my comfort and pain levels. I am now very careful and make sure that my bowel works as often as possible!!

I have also had other discomfort and pain caused by sitting down, it seems to be in my groin, it gets quite intense the longer I sit and travels down my legs. The tops start off as a dull ache and then progress until my knees feel like they are three sizes bigger than they actually are and I ache all the way down to my ankles! Thankfully since surgery I only experience when I over do things (Like painting my new office last weekend! hehehe) then I pay for it a bit. Anyway... hopes this helps, you never know your pain could be from something similar.... that’s the great thing about the message boards, isn't it? We can learn from each other's experiences. Oh, and there is an interesting article on laxative abuse on http://www.bombobeach.com just click on digestive stuff on the main menu bar and that’s where you will find the info!

Love & warm gentle hugs, Jo
