I can tell you what the drug book says, but it won't help lot I'm afraid. Action of Ultram: Unknown. A centrally acting synthetic analgesic compound not chemically related to opiates. Drug is thought to bind opiod receptors and inhibit re-uptake of norepinephrine and serotonin. Lay-mans terms- non-narcotic but they don't know why it works. It does help pain and is not addicting. Have a chat with your pharmacist-they could tell you a lot more. Sincerely, Deb
