Hi Lyn,

Small bowel obstructions make you extremely ill, you cannot keep any food down, often you will get the sweats, and extremely bad pain. You are describing (based on my personal experience, which SHOULD NOT take the place of your doctors advice) is severe constipation.

You need to be drinking at least 2 litres of water per day, hot drinks such as tea & coffee are good too. Take a regular dose of laxative (just taking it a few times isn't enough) and use glycerin suppositories (2) at least once a day. You need to "attack" this from "top" and "bottom" to loosen and soften the stool. It is really important to keep your stool soft when you suffer from adhesions, when you get constipated, you will experience more pain and discomfort than usual, including back pain.

I am taking 2 coloxyl tablets, 15mg lactulose and 2 teaspoons of Normacol granuals. I then use glycerin suppositories at least every second day. They stimulate the lower bowel and help move the stool. DON'T use any other "objects" to help you empty, it can cause a great deal of damage. If the problem doesn't resolve itself in the next few days, please go to your doctor.

Oh, and a gentle walk for 10 minutes at least once a day. Exersise is VERY important for healthy bowel movement.

I hope you find relief soon, I know just how uncomfortable (PAINFUL) constipation can be!

Love & warm gentle hugs......
