The researcher who is developing a better test to detect ovarian cancer using a jellyfish gene is Tandra Chaudhuri, Ph.D., associate professor of radiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. An article about this research appeared in Family Circle, 5/21/02, titled Medical Breakthroughs That Can Save Your Life (p. 69). Another new detection technique, also reported in this article, looks at patterns of proteins in the patient's blood. It requires a simple finger stick test. Hopefully, one or both of these tests will replace the CA-125, which is very inaccurate for premenopausal women.
