Deb, About 6 months after my hysto i had my first bowel obstruction, severe pain, went to ER and ended up in the hospital for 3 days where they hooked me up to an iv, lots of pain meds and waited for it to clear then home I went. This pattern repeated about 6x over the next 18 months until june 2000. Middle of the night I got really sick, pain, vomiting the works. I knew this one was different. I called my sister to come take care of my kids (I am a single parent) called a cab and didn't come home for 7 days. In the mean time I had been interviewing surgeons in case this happened. She had given me a letter to carry with me . It instructed the ER doc to do a CT scan w/contrast to see if there were adhesions. Up to this time they really didn't believe me that it was adhesions.I ended up in surgery for 4 hours to clean up my adhesions. She found them exactly where I had said I could feel them. I am most thankful that she didn't cut me vetically. At first she told me that was how she did it. I begged her not to. It wasn't until I woke up that I found out that she had followed the one on my bikini line.I can just imagine what a mess I'd be if she had. This June will be 2 years since that surgery. I am still in constant pain but am resolved to stay away from surgery at any cost. I now see a pain doc. Just started oxycontin. Am currently having a partial obstruction and hoping it will clear. I don't know how to distinguish endo from adhesions. But I do know that NO ONE knows your body like you do. Be persistant until someone will listen. Find a good pain specialist. That in itself has given me a huge chunk of my life back. Take good care, Meg
