Re: Ultram Addiction

Sally,

I am not one to just sue everyone, but I must disagree with you on this one. Ultram was put on the market as a pain medication that would not cause addiction. In fact, they have learned that it does. I don't know that I am saying for people to sue the makers of Ultram because they became addicted, but there are times when drug manufacturers should be sued. When they knowingly and wittingly put a drug on the market that causes severe problems and attempt to hide all the evidence that proves they have knowledge of it...then yes...this company should be sued. I took phenfen....I did it because a doctor told me I would have no problems with it and that I needed to lose weight so that I could have surgery. One year later I had heart valve damage and mild pulmonary hypertension. I was not aware that these were side effects of the drug but have since learned that American Home Products...the makers of the drug...did. I sued this company...yes I did. I am not ashamed of it. They needed to pay and they need to pay more. We can not have companies such as this being more concerned about the almighty dollar than what it can do to the patient. If the makers of Ultram knowingly knew that it was addictive I would say that a lawsuit is reasonable....but I am not aware of the facts in this case. But, I know that when I was prescribed the ultram I was told that it would be safe for me to take because it was not addictive. I am not saying people should sue but people are not responsible for taking a drug and becoming addicted if they have been mislead. Just my opinion.
