Colette: Amitriptyline - helps lessen intensity of chronic pain and improves ability to sleep!!!!!!!

Dear Colette, My condolences to you in the recent loss of your father; and I am so sorry to hear that you are experiencing other stresses in your life. When a person suffers from chronic pain and is not able to enjoy the life they once knew, depression will enter the picture.

I will be posting information about depression and about my experience with the anti-depressant, Amitriptyline. Since it is already known that this antidepressant helps with sleep, Amitriptyline is a far better and safer choice - than medication that is meant to aid sleep.

Hi jo, You know what you said makes sense it's so true! I've been having problems since Sept 11 th that day my dad died also and now my mom and I are'nt getting along my husbands job is'nt doing well no money coming in were having trouble paying our rent we have to get help from the state this month! Plus everything else with the kids it feels like i'm all stressed out! I've been having anxiety attacks too! So all that you said makes sense! I need to take time out for myself during the day or practice yoga! I'm going to ask my dr on mon to prescribe something other than pain meds to relax me at night so i can sleep! I live on painmeds! It sticks but they help to a point to get me through somedays! Thank you jo i love you! Colette >

Dear Colette

Helen Dynda posted an interesting paper yesterday which talked about the stress from September 11 causing an increase in pain in chronic pain sufferers....I think that article points to us all for many different reasons........ If we have highly stressful issues to deal with ESPECIALLY money, kids etc....our pain can sometimes get out of control. These pressures creep in sometimes without us being aware of them....once the pain increases and you aren't handling your pain as well, it's time to take evasive action. (This is my theory OK? )

If something at work is bugging you, or your pain increases try closing your eyes for a few moments and listen to yourself breathing.....deliberately slow each breath down, make one or two sigh's and you should feel yourself relaxing. If you still don't feel better, do it again, particularly useful around the kids....mine know when I'm quiet to look out! I come up with the best ways to deal with their behavior! LOL (when all else fails, I retreat to my beach quickly! ) hehehe

Give it a try and let me know if it helps you my friend

love & gentle warm hugs

Jo (Australia)
